KITCHENER, Ontario (April 21, 1997) Imagine sitting on the front porch of a farmhouse in the heartland of Ontario's farming community, basking in the quiet warmth of a summer day. Now, imagine that same scene as it is momentarily interrupted by the laughter, banter and exertion of 1,000 cyclists as they make their way past the house, past the nearest town, and all the way through the breadbasket of Ontario. This is what George Kraemer, President of the Cycle Ontario Experience, calls a CYCLONE!
CYCLONE '97, short for The Cycle Ontario Experience, is a multi-day cycling and camping holiday tour which will bring together an estimated 1,000 cyclists this summer. Taking place from June 21 to 28, the tour will showcase the "breadbasket" of Ontario, which features Perth, Huron and Bruce Counties. Members of the tour will make stops at points of regional and historical interest in these areas, and will be introduced to some of Ontario's most beautiful attractions.
"CYCLONE '97 is a wonderful opportunity," says Kraemer, "for people who don't have the privilege of living in Ontario to see the sights, meet the people and experience the unique flavours of our province."
To help publicize the tour, Kraemer is also proud to announce the launch of CYCLONE Online, an interactive, Internet web site designed by Kitchener's The Galileo Group Inc. The web site features an online itinerary of the tour, a map of the travel area, a question and answer forum, and an area for Internet users to register themselves. "Cyclone Online is an attempt for The Cycle Ontario Experience to reach users in other parts of North America," says Galileo's V.P. of Marketing Bryon Thur, "a market which is normally out of reach for small tour operators."
The web site, which is available to all Internet users at www.golden.net/~gkraemer/, also allows CYCLONE '97 to thank their sponsors for this year's tour, a list which includes Erb Transport, KFC, Braun's Bicycle & Fitness, PowerBar and Bell Mobility.
