Galileo Group Selected as Judge in Upcoming Internet Competition

KITCHENER, Ontario (November 23, 1998) -- Bryon Thur, VP Sales and Marketing for The Galileo Group, is pleased to announce that they have been selected as a judge for St. John's-Kilmarnock's upcoming CyberFair.

St. John's-Kilmarnock is an independent school located in Maryhill, Ontario, and is headed by Dr. David Howie. Students involved in the CyberFair have been tasked with creating web sites for local businesses or community topics to be published on the web. Judging will be based on the student's use of content, as well as their web site's technical attributes.

In being named judges of the CyberFair, The Galileo Group joins local and international industry professionals including Mortice-Kern Systems and Research In Motion of Waterloo, the Alusuisse Lonza Group of Switzerland, and meep! Media of Montreal.

"The project addresses many educational objectives," says Mike Yoskovitz, CyberFair organizer and teacher at St. John's-Kilmarnock. "Not only do students learn how to create professional web sites, they will improve their research, reading and writing skills as well." The Fair will also make students aware of hi-tech career opportunities, especially in Canada's Technology Triangle.

Judges will review between 18-25 web sites towards the end of April, 1999, and the winners will be announced at the beginning of May. Students will receive prizes ranging from gift certificates at computer stores to stationary supplies for their successful participation.

Details about the St. John's-Kilmarnock CyberFair, the judges and sponsors can be found on the Internet at www.sjkcyberfair.on.ca.

"Galileo is honoured to be a part of this event," says Thur. "The Internet has become an extremely important aspect of the business world, and therefore it's crucial that students receive high-level exposure to it so they can be better prepared for the workforce requirements of tomorrow."
